Eleanor made this building a home in 1937, retiring to the modest home at Val-Kill, close to the Hudson River, after the death of her husband, President Franklin D. Roosevelt. The Site: The grounds of Val-Kill boast flower gardens, fields, trails and a pond. The site offers a guided tour of the fully furnished cottage. Some tours have a special themes, for example, one may focus on Eleanor’s political activities domestically and abroad while another highlights aspects of her personal life.
